Why come to Manchester?

Join us in shaping the future of global public healthcare

A vision for the future shape of global public healthcare is now being formulated in Manchester and will inform policy discussions across the world for generations to come. World Healthcare Congress Europe is your opportunity to join the conversation.

World Healthcare Congress Europe will welcome speakers and delegates to a city of firsts in the fields of health and social care. Manchester is the birthplace of the British National Health Service – the largest and oldest single-payer healthcare system in the world. The first IVF baby, Louise Brown was born here. Manchester was the UK’s first city to be recognised as age-friendly by the World Health Organisation. With its rich history of radical thought, Manchester gave birth to the Arts and Health movement over 30 years ago. The Christie cancer treatment centre has led the world for more than 100 years and continues to break new ground.

In an era of significant political, social and financial challenges for healthcare professionals, Manchester is playing a leading role in developing new ways to meet the healthcare and social care needs of the future. In announcing the landmark devolution of a £6bn budget for health and social care spending to Greater Manchester, the UK Government started a process which has unlocked unprecedented advances in personalised medicine and citizen health. Through collaboration across public and private sector and academia, and through the empowerment of citizens, the region is pioneering a new approach to addressing the health and social care needs of 2.8 million people. Decisions are being made about the way healthcare will be funded and provided in future. What happens here today will resonate across the world.

World Healthcare Congress Europe provides a timely forum to showcase the progress that is already being made in exploring new models of collaboration. Health Innovation Manchester is pioneering an approach which seeks to accelerate innovation that transforms citizens’ health and wellbeing.

World Healthcare Congress Europe will provide a platform for the discussion of three themes: personalised healthcare; arts for health and wellbeing; and innovative health and social care ecosystems. The Arts For Health movement radiated worldwide from Manchester in the 1970s. Manchester is leading the way in pioneering healthcare tailored to meet the needs of the individual rather than the many, with services commissioned locally and reflecting the unique characteristics of local neighbourhoods. Hospitals in the region are blazing a trail in new ways of using digital technology to drive radical improvements in the care of patients.

The eyes on the world’s healthcare professionals are already on Manchester as it explores a new, more holistic approach to improving health and wellbeing. Leveraging the exceptional academic and clinical assets of the city region, it brings together basic research, translational research, clinical demand, and industry know-how and investment under a single umbrella. Your questions are being answered here. Our future is your future. Join us in shaping it.
